London is the cheapest city in the UK for outdoor home improvements in 2026, based on gross disposable income, a study from global construction firm BOLEO has found.
Londoners spend a significantly smaller share of their income on outdoor upgrades compared with every other major UK city, at 5.32% of annual income.
After that the most affordable areas are Edinburgh and Bristol.
On the other end of the spectrum Nottingham is the most expensive major UK city, where patio and driveway costs take the largest share of income.
It’s also particularly costly in Leicester, Hull and Stoke-on-Trent.
Kevin Xing, product manager at BOLEO, said: “Income differences across UK cities have created a split in how affordable outdoor projects feel.
“A garden upgrade can be a manageable improvement in London, but a much higher cost in places where wages are lower.
“Our goal is to help households understand these differences as they plan their outdoor spaces for 2026.”
